Hallisa neighbourhood, Haifa

After the expulsion of the original residents of the Hallisa neighbourhood in the Nakba during 1948, the residents of the "Rimal" area (sands) found refuge there after being displaced from their homes. Years of urban and governmental promises hover in front of a view of the Hallisa neighbourhood. Residents are hungry for a solution but their past holds the chance. There are almost no income or employment opportunities while crime on the streets is tempting and offers quick solutions. A real circle of drugs.
The neighbourhood continues to be neglected as its homes are about to collapse and its residents suffer from appalling poverty and ongoing suffering, a narrative that is repeated in all the urban settlements involved.
